Opportunities for Students

Thinking of majoring in theatre in college?

This summer join our Shakespeare Summer Intensive and Internship (SSII) and immerse yourself in the classic works of William Shakespeare, learning the ins and outs of working with a professional summer theatre festival.

Auditions for SSII 2008 are being held May 18 from 2-4pm, at the Rockwood Conference Center.


Intensive

The Delaware Shakespeare Festival is seeking motivated high school students for this innovative program. Interns will take classes in Acting, Voice, Shakespeare Text and Performance, culminating in a showcase of Shakespearean scenes and monologues at Rockwood Mansion Park.

Classes will begin June 23rd and run Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for four weeks until July 18th. (No class on Friday, July 4). Classes are held at Rockwood Mansion Park in North Wilmington. The daily schedule for each student is:

  • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.: Training in Acting, Voice, Shakespeare Text or Performance.
  • 12:00 p.m. - 12:30 p.m.: Lunch break
  • 12:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.: Rehearsal for the Internship production.

The Internship performances will be at the end of classes with a reception following.

Internship

After classes end, students join DSF’s Mainstage show, Romeo & Juliet, as Production Interns. By the end of the summer intensive and internship, students will have a better understanding of a career in the performing arts.

The Delaware Shakespeare Festival is an annual theatrical event celebrating the works of Shakespeare through professional outdoor performances. Begun in 2003, the Festival has grown each year by entertaining and enlightening enthusiastic crowds who enjoy picnicking while taking in the performance. The Festival is an ideal way to introduce youngsters to the classics, or for adults to reacquaint with these classic works of literature.
